For many of the officers in Jeb Stuart's command, their return to the U.S. Cavalry Barracks in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, was a sad and ironic homecoming. The exigencies of the Gettysburg Campaign demanded they destroy the very classrooms where they learned the art of war.
